Investing in solutions to move people

from poverty to possibility

The state of the economy, poor health and social isolation can have a devastating impact on communities where families struggle daily just to get by. Poverty, homelessness and hunger don’t define people. They are a current state of being brought about by extenuating circumstances, often beyond one’s control. By addressing the underlying causes of these social issues we can help people move from poverty to possibility, instilling hope for a better quality of life for individuals and their families.

Wendy's story

This video shows the story of Wendy, a client of Caledon Community Services. Wendy has gone from poverty to possibility through the help of United Way funded programs.

Our Community Investments

  • We help people get back on their feet by making sure they have access to the most basic needs in life – food, shelter, meaningful employment and reassurance of their personal value.
  • We make sure there are supports in place to help out families who are struggling to make ends meet.
  • We work with community leaders and government to make sure there are relevant programs and policies in place that move people from poverty to financial independence.

Difference we made in 2011-2012

In 2011, donations to United Way of Peel Region:

  • Provided 23,383 individuals, including children, with basic necessities like food security and shelter.
