Pulling for U! – UPS Hosts Plane Pull in Support of United Way of Peel Region

PEEL REGION (June 29, 2017) – Last Saturday, teams gathered at Toronto Pearson International Airport, equipped with determination, not passports, for the second annual UPS Plane Pull, Pulling for U!

UPS organized the initiative in support of United Way of Peel Region where teams of 15 people took on the challenge of pulling a 20,000 tonne, Airbus A300, UPS Brown tail plane, 50 feet across the tarmac in the shortest amount of time.

“Thanks to our partners at UPS who have organized this spectacular and unique event that showcases our community’s determination to create possibility.” said Anita Stellinga, Interim President and CEO, United Way of Peel Region. “Just as it’s possible to pull these planes, it’s possible to make a difference in the lives of the over 200,000 people living in poverty right now in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.”
Over the past two years, teams have raised over $13,000 in support of United Way of Peel Region initiatives to continue supporting those living in crisis while reducing and preventing  poverty.

“Our partnership with the United Way spans 30 years and each year, their impact on Canadian communities grows stronger,” said Christoph Atz, president, UPS Canada. “Events like this year’s Pulling For U in support of United Way of Peel Region, is yet another story of strength, compassion and a dedication to improve and empower this community.”

UPS is a long-time supporter of United Way, both nationally and internationally, and has received the “Thanks a Million” award in Canada for 16 consecutive years. The annual award celebrates organizations that have raised $1 million or more in support of United Way.
