United Way of Peel Region invests in 10 youth led initiatives

PEEL REGION (December 9, 2016) – On Thursday, surrounded by family and friends, 10 groups comprised of young, entrepreneurial leaders were awarded a Youth in Action grant.

Shelley White, President and CEO, United Way of Peel Region was on hand for the cheque ceremony. “Year after year, I’m amazed by the calibre of projects submitted by such young, brilliant, socially conscious minds”

$15,000 was distributed to 10 youth-led projects through this granting opportunity. “This grant provides youth with opportunities to develop new skills and create change for other youth here in Peel.” says White.

“Youth are powerful and effective volunteers, serving our community in varied and helpful ways. Thank you to United Way of Peel Region, because of its generous donors we are able to partner with youth to address key social issues in our community.” said Shivi Gill, Young Leaders Council Chair and member of United Way of Peel Region’s Board of Directors.

Youth in Action grants are a one-time granting opportunity focused on youth-led projects that offer creative youth-initiated ideas to address community issues in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Youth between the ages of 14 and 24 are eligible to apply for this grant.

Youth in Action grants were developed in 2009 by United Way's Young Leaders Council, a group of volunteers aged 20 to 35 who are committed to creating a legacy of volunteerism and spirited giving within Peel Region.
