Pulling for U! – UPS Host’s Plane Pull in Support of United Way of Peel Region
MISSISSAUGA (September 10, 2016) – Earlier this morning teams of people arrived at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport not with passports in hand but with their might, courage and some ice for the subsequent strain on their bodies.
UPS organized the first annual plane pull in support of United Way of Peel Region where participants came together to take on the challenge of pulling an Airbus A300 50 feet across the tarmac in the shortest amount of time.
“Impossible is two letters too long. Today is about what is possible – like a group of committed volunteers using their might and determination to pull a plane. It’s this same determination, partnership and collaboration that will allow us to one day eliminate Poverty in our region. We are united in our purpose of changing the lives of over 200,000 people in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.” said Shelley White, President & CEO, United Way of Peel Region. “Thanks to our partners at UPS who organized such a unique event in support of the community, it clearly shows that with the right attitude and determination, we are possibility”
“UPS is proud to support an organization that shares our dedication to strengthening our communities across Canada,” said Christoph Atz, president, UPS Canada. “Together, we are making a real difference in the quality of life for so many Canadians and this year’s ‘Pulling for U’ event in support of Peel Region is no exception. It’s a great event that positively impacts this community by funding local programs that help each generation develop skills for a bright future,” he added.
UPS is a long-time supporter of United Way, both nationally and internationally and has received the “Thanks a Million” award in Canada for 15 consecutive years. The annual award celebrates organizations that have raised $1 million or more in support of United Way.
