“Refugees are coming to Canada to start new lives that are safe for them and their children. Most are coming here with almost nothing. United Way’s mandate is to support those in need in our community.   This situation is no different. We are committed to supporting the successful resettlement, integration and inclusion of the Syrian refugees, as well as refugees and immigrants from other countries, said Shelley White, President and CEO of United Way of Peel Region. “This generous donation by Mona Fine Foods is a reminder of the compassion and generous spirit of our local business owners who want to support our communities.”

"To the entire Abdulwahab Family including Ma’an, Amal and Ziad, I would like to thank you on behalf of the residents of Mississauga for taking the initiative and launching this generous grocery store voucher program in support of refugee families.” Mayor Bonnie Crombie said. “The Syrian refugee crisis has brought people together to work toward the common goal to help those unable to help themselves. Every step of the way residents and community groups - like the United Way Peel Region - have dedicated countless hours to help those in need and to welcome families to their new homes here in Mississauga and in communities across Canada.”

United Way of Peel Region has partnered with local agencies that specialize in accepting, sorting and distributing donations that can help others. The vouchers are being distributed by the following trusted community partners: Malton Neighbourhood Services, Catholic Crosscultural Services, Newcomer Centre of Peel, Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services and Peel District School Board’s Welcome Centres.

"It is with great pride that Mona Fine Foods has joined the city of Mississauga in supporting the wonderful refugees that have joined us from all around the world and most recently Syria.  Many of us have started where you are and many of us have become the unthinkable.  It is together that we become successful at what we do.” said Ma’an Abdulwahab, Owner of Mona Fine Foods. “Mona Fine Foods takes joy in welcoming newcomers to Canada and promotes equality and diversity within the workplace.  We thank MP Omar Alghabra and Mayor Bonnie Crombie along with the help of the United Way for helping in the coordination and distribution of our donation."
