United Way of Peel Region to redefine possibility in Peel with 2014 fundraising campaign

BRAMPTON (September 18, 2014) – Today, at The Journey Neighbourhood Centre in Brampton, with thundersticks in hand and enough energy to fill a stadium, 500+ United Way of Peel Region supporters roared to a crescendo chanting, “WE ARE POSSIBILITY”. The new rallying cry aims to capture the hearts and minds of the community.

Joined by volunteers and partners, Chuck Hounsell, 2014 Campaign Chair and Senior Vice-President of Payment at TD Bank, and Shelley White, President and CEO of United Way, announced a fundraising target of $12.4-million.

“This target is tied directly to advancing measurable goals in United Way’s three focus areas: moving people from poverty to possibility, helping kids be all they can be and building strong communities,” says White. “Because of our generous donors, last year over 203,000 people in our community had hope and the possibility of a better life – a second chance, a fresh start, and a healthier family in a thriving community.”

“United Way is redefining what’s possible for anyone struggling in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon,” says Hounsell. “Each one of us has the ability to make a deep and lasting difference in the lives of other people. I invite everyone who lives in our region to make a donation to United Way of Peel Region today and change the lives of the one in seven people who are living in poverty. With your support in this campaign, we can change even more lives in the next year.”

After the official launch rally, the group then set out across the Ardglen neighbourhood (one of three United Way Strong Neighbourhood Grant recipients) to take on volunteer activities to revitalize the neighbourhood that was hit hard by a fire in early June. They refreshed and beautified spaces, created care packages, painted a “WE ARE POSSIBILITY” mural, and so much more. The United Way event was generously sponsored by TD Bank.

This year’s community campaign wraps up on December 31, 2014.
