United Way of Peel Region Says Thanks a Million to GE Canada and PepsiCo Canada

BRAMPTON (June 24, 2014) – United Way of Peel Region said thanks a million to GE Canada and PepsiCo Canada for each raising more than $1-million for the 2013 United Way Centraide Canada Campaign.

The Thanks a Million Award recognizes the organizations that have raised $1-million or more in support of United Way Centraide in one campaign year.

“By coming together to support United Way across the country, we are closing gaps, building communities and improving lives,” says Jacline A. Nyman, president & CEO of United Way Centraide Canada. “As a result of our generous Thanks a Million award winners, children are thriving, seniors are living with dignity and our most vulnerable populations are being given a second chance.”

With their head offices in Peel, GE Canada and PepsiCo Canada have more than 16,000 employees across the country.

“Every year, PepsiCo Canada and GE Canada continue to demonstrate community leadership with their highly successful United Way campaigns,” says Shelley White, president and CEO of United Way of Peel Region. “Thanks to GE Canada, PepsiCo Canada and all of our corporate donors, we are helping to build a better community one life at a time.”

Thanks a Million GE Canada

GE Canada was celebrated for its contributions in 2013.

"We are greatly honoured to receive the Thanks a Million award for the 7th consecutive year,” says Lisa Jankov and Paul Desiri, GE Canada’s National Campaign Chairs in 2013. “The award is a testament to the generosity of GE employees and retirees, and their ongoing support of United Way."

The GE Foundation also matched the financial gifts of its current and retired employees.

Thanks a Million PepsiCo Canada

This is the fifth time PepsiCo Canada has received the Thanks a Million award.

“This is a great achievement for PepsiCo Canada employees; and one that I’m particularly proud of,” says Richard Glover, president, PepsiCo Beverages Canada. “Through the generosity and charitable giving of our people, positive opportunities are being created for those within our communities who need it most.”

PepsiCo also generously provided a $100,000 Leadership Matching Grant to motivate and inspire PepsiCo donors and supporters throughout the region to invest in the Community Fund.

“Receiving this award for the fifth year in a row really is a testament to the non-wavering commitment of PepsiCo Canada employees to make a difference in their communities,” says Marc Guay, president, PepsiCo Foods Canada. “I’m honoured to work with such a caring group of people who pride themselves on helping others.”

Both corporations were recognized  at United Way of Peel Region’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.
