United Way Youth Ambassador named one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20
MISSISSAUGA (May 28, 2014) – United Way of Peel Region congratulates youth ambassador Wali Shah on being a recipient of this year’s Top 20 Under 20™ Award presented by Youth in Motion.
“Wali Shah does not have your typical story. But his passion to overcome obstacles and become an advocate for other young people are what truly sets him apart,” says Shelley White, president and CEO, United Way of Peel Region.
After spending a night behind bars, and facing charges of assault, Wali has turned his life around. He poured his passion into poetry and spoken word – finding a safe, creative and powerful medium to spread his message of anti-bullying and anti-violence.
“Wali is a valued member of the United Way family and a shining example of an individual who can truly make a difference,” White shared. “It was an honour to support his nomination.”
