Mondelēz Canada volunteers bring Joy to Brampton through United Way Day of Caring™

BRAMPTON (May 22, 2014) – Over 100 volunteers from Mondelēz Canada spent the day cleaning parks, picking up litter and taking part in an “Extreme Park Make Over” at Flower City Campus in Brampton. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got dirty for the community by planting trees, pulling weeds and mulching – all in support of United Way’s Spring Day of Caring™.

Day of Caring™ is designed to allow supporters of the United Way to give back to their community through volunteerism. It is also an opportunity to learn more about how their contributions to United Way are making an impact in the community. Green spaces, like the Flower City Campus, are settings that bring people together and create community ties. These ties are the heart of a neighborhood's strength.

The event saw hundreds of volunteers from companies located across Peel lend a hand to help reinvigorate 23 community spaces across the region.

“Day of Caring is a chance for our donors and volunteers to participate in a ‘hands-on’ project for the community, and allows us a chance to educate them further about the difference they’re making in people’s lives,” says Shelley White, CEO of United Way of Peel Region. “We couldn’t do our work without their tremendous involvement. Thanks to them change starts here.”

The entire Spring Day of Caring was made possible because of the generous support of Mondelēz Canada, makers of famous brands such as OREO, Ritz, Cadbury and Trident. With its head office in Mississauga, the Mondelēz Canada team is a stellar example of companies that create positive impact, locally in Peel.

“As one of Canada’s leading snack companies, our goal is to deliver delicious moments of Joy through the products we make,” said Dan Magliocco, President, Mondelēz Canada.  “But Joy can be experienced in many ways, and for us, it also means protecting the well-being of our planet. As this year’s title sponsor for Days of Caring, we’re bringing joy by creating a beautiful green space for thousands to enjoy within the community.  We’re proud to continue on with our legacy of supporting the United Way and giving back to the communities where we live, work and play.”

The following partners helped us with Day of Caring™: Clean City Brampton, City of Mississauga, Peace Ranch.
