Young Leaders Unite at United Way of Peel Region’s 2012 Youth Spirit Awards on March 18

MISSISSAUGA (March 7, 2013) – In a celebration of youth achievement, United Way of Peel Region will be honouring students from across Peel who contributed to the annual United Way Campaign. This celebration will be held at Mississauga’s Sheridan College campus on Monday, March 18, 2013. The Youth Spirit Awards will recognize innovative and inspiring young people in Peel. The event will also feature a performance by Wali Shah – a local youth poet and member of the Mississauga Arts Council’s Limelight Association of Young Artists.

Sponsors of the event include: Sheridan College and Ultima Foods.

2012 Youth Spirit Awards

United Way of Peel Region’s Youth Spirit Awards honour the inspiration and passion showcased by Peel’s young people. Spirit Award winners take campaign best practices and tailor them to fit their own audience, resulting in creative and exciting initiatives. United Way of Peel Region’s Young Leaders Council and their Youth Campaigns Committee take ownership of the Youth Spirit Awards and will be awarding 11 awards in three divisions: Elementary, Secondary and Post-Secondary.

The Youth Spirit Awards are..

Helping Hands Award
This award is presented to the group with the most participants at an event that demonstrates extraordinary teamwork and is focused on community issues. To be eligible for this award, a minimum of 30 individuals must participate in the event.

Biggest Bucks Award
This award is presented to the group that raises the most money for United Way of Peel Region. To be eligible for this award, groups must raise a minimum of $500 and hold at least two events.

Uniquely Yours Award
This award is presented to the group that holds the most creative and unique special event(s) in support of United Way of Peel Region. In order to be eligible for this award, groups must hold at least one event.

Social Spirit Award
This award is presented to the group with the best use of social media in creating a team logo, team name, event information, photos, and in providing communications and internal support.
