REGION OF PEEL — The residents of Summerville Pines in Mississauga welcomed a surprise group of visitors yesterday when Peel Senior Link, participated in United Way‘s Day Of Caring™.

Twelve corporate volunteers from Edward Jones, E.I duPont Canada Company, and Baxter Corporation scrubbed floors, cleaned stoves and went grocery shopping for Peel Senior Link residents.

“It started with a knock on my door. Two young men were there wanting to know if I needed help cleaning out my fridge and my stove. They came in and cleaned everything. It was wonderful,” said Muriel, a client at Peel Senior Link.

“The volunteers have created such a buzz. All the seniors are talking about them and they are so happy. I wish we could do Day of Caring ™ at least once a month,” said Tiziana Pelusi, Supervisor Client Services at Peel Senior Link.

The events of the Day of Caring™ are designed to allow United Way supporters to see firsthand how their donations to the United Way are helping the community through its funded agencies. Peel Senior Link is one of 56 agencies that United Way funds. TD Canada Trust was the day’s official sponsor.

“I’d like to thank all of our donors and volunteers for your support of United Way and for participation in the 2012 Spring Day of Caring™,” says Shelley White, CEO, United Way of Peel Region. “We couldn’t do our work without your tremendous involvement. Thanks to you change starts here.”
The Day of Caring™ featured numerous volunteering events throughout Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga. Over 220 corporate employees volunteered to give a helping hand at 30 different United Way-funded agencies across Peel Region.

What was the highlight at this Day of Caring™ event? According to one of the corporate volunteers it was, “…watching my boss scrubbing floors and cleaning the apartments. Normally you wouldn’t even find a crease in his shirt!”
