Precarious Employment in Peel Region

It's a beautiful photograph. A silhouette of a window framed by soft curtains. It reminds me of a picture I saw in a home design magazine. But sadly it is a photograph that has a much deeper, sadder story to tell. It is part of an exhibit at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum & Archives (PAMA) that has several more such photographs.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Hershey!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Hershey!

Milton Hershey grew up as a farm boy in the 1800s and never had the chance to get much in the way of a formal education. However, as his company, The Hershey Chocolate Company prospered, he made it a priority to provide others with that opportunity and used profits to operate a school for orphaned boys.

His legacy of philanthropy continues as Hershey Canada honoured his birthday by kicking off their United Way campaign.

Good Food Brampton Community Kitchen open

Written by // Sharon Douglas Categories // From poverty to possibility

Congratulations Catholic Family Services of Peel-Dufferin on the launch of the Good Food Brampton Community Kitchen.

In the past 10 years, poverty has increased by more than 50% in Peel Region. Our current food system is not working. Too many people are unable to access healthy food, especially food that is locally grown. Our most vulnerable citizens are surviving on poor quality food. As a result, their physical and mental health are being seriously eroded.
